If you had the choice to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would that food be? Mine is an even tie, I think, between Rise Sushi's (the best Sushi spot in Chicago, in my opinion. And I've eaten at many of them!) Salmon Avocado Rolls and Life Cereal. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to eat the Life cereal. Like a punishment, "Life" for the rest of your life. Of course, both of my meals require more than one item. Life Cereal needs skim milk (it's better for you, people!), and the sushi needs Rise's soy sauce. Mmm. I wonder which is healthier. Life has a significant quantity of sugar, but is vitamin fortified (which I've heard is actually kind of a gross process if you visit a cereal factory. I'm determined to never taint my lovely feelings about cereal with actual knowledge of how gross a room full of vitamin powder would be). Sushi is healthy, more complex, with proteins and grains. Avocados have a lot of fat, but the good fat. Soy sauce has a lot of sodium. Salmon doesn't have a lot of mercury, which is what most people worry about with fish. Lots of Omega-3's, though, those good little antioxidants. I guess my thought would be, if I was only going to eat one food for the rest of my life, then which food would help me live longer? Probably the sushi. Because you see elderly Japanese people all the time, but I've never met an elderly person who consumed only cereal for the better part of their life.

All this to say, go to Rise Sushi and Sake on Southport in Chicago. It's got the best Salmon Avocado Rolls I've ever had. And a lot of other really amazing, more original rolls. And great edamame (soybeans), and great sesame and jalapeno encrusted calamari. That's my sales pitch. And then, when you're done, go home and eat a bowl of Life Cereal for dessert. Or Froot Loops, I'm rather fond of those, too. (reminds me of vacations as a child, for some odd reason!) The point is, we can eat as many foods as we want. And that's a good thing. I love food.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would that food be?

This is Scott. You may have read about me in a few previous blog entries by Tracy. Right now, I am offended. A friend of hers recommended she try the crusted calamari. She eventually did, but only because I ordered it. However, she knows what my favorite dish at Rise is, yet did not mention this. So, my favorite dish is the Fire Roll. It is a wonderful amalgam of flavors. She has sampled this and enjoyed it.

My favorite food is pizza.
