Do Anything
Being a social worker changes your mind about a lot of things. If it doesn't, you're not doing it right. It has changed my mind about politics, religion, poverty, love, compassion, mercy, God, mental health (and mental illness), and my need for all things material (you try being a social worker working part-time while in grad school...you'll find out you can live for a week on two pints of ice cream and a box of Wheat Thins!), among other things.
I find myself increasingly frustrated with those who think that they have a handle on the realities of life. How can you argue theology when there are people's lives falling apart all around you? God isn't interested in your words, he's interested in what your hands and feet are doing. How can you argue about political budgets when you haven't actually worked for an organization that depends on that money so desperately to feed and house those without a home? I would not dare lecture a Chicago Public School teacher about the pitfalls of America's educational system. Because you know what? They're out there. DOING. Not talking, not debating, not preaching. DOING. Because they know that words mean nothing without action.
James 2:26: As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
James 2:18b Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
I'm not saying I'm perfect. I fall far short of this every day. I have been convicted, right now, that I have overlooked this incriminating statement far too many times. Maybe you have, too. My point is, At what cost? We need to be doing, doing, doing. Our words about Christ mean nothing if we cannot feed, house, listen to, teach and hug others in His name.

Preach it, sista. I especially liked the part about CPS teachers. ;)
