Leslie Nielsen? NO, the other one!
I'm not going to blog about Anna Nicole Smith's untimely death. I know, I know, it's so unlike me to stay away from the easy tabloid fodder story, but truthfully, I think I owe it to a girl who's had a rough life to not pretend that I knew anything about her. Only a few people actually knew her, the rest, friends, is just speculation. So I'm gonna let her rest in peace, and hope that she is, indeed, at peace.
I'm going to blog about an interesting piece of information that I found out yesterday. Scott mentioned to me in passing that the Nielsen ratings system only just recently included college students in their measurements. And that this has caused the ratings on several shows, ie Scrubs, to jump significantly. And then Scott's roommate told me that the Nielsen ratings have never counted the single person's viewing, only families. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THIS?? Because, honestly, don't single people watch TV every once in a while? I mean, I know we're busy outside of our homes with a lot of functions, but I know that most of us singles like to curl up on the couch whenever we get a chance with our show du jour. "Grey's Anatomy." Yep, single women watching that one (not me, but others who have Thursday nights off!). "Friday Night Lights"? Yep, almost every single guy I know watches this show. "Lost"? The following among the young and single crowd is immense for this evening soap opera (c'mon, it is TOO a soap opera! Just a soap opera in a jungle setting). All to say, if Nielsen wanted to provide accurate numbers for its advertisers...who I would presume to be VERY interested in the 20-somethings with disposable income demographic...they would start tabulating the results for the single population in addition to families. This is single person discrimination!! I should PICKET!! (I'm kidding. Sheesh. It's like -20 outside!)
Time to make ourselves count by watching everything online, singles. Then, at least, there will be a record of our watching the show. I stand up to be counted!!! Or I'll just stay seated right here in front of my computer. Whichever!

Yeah, I realized a while ago that Battlestar Galactica is a soap opera in space. *sigh*
Doesn't keep me from watching it and loving it, though.
