Show time!
So, tonight is our first performance of "God's Favorite". Or should I say, it's our first performance with an audience consisting of more than cast and crew. We've been doing the show full through for a little while now, and we are anxious to get out there and do it for real tonight. Last night's dress rehearsal was so great, we messed up lines here and there, but our energy was high, and it looked good, and overall, it was a lot of fun. I think Scott was encouraged by watching the performance, realizing that after all this work on his part and our part, it doesn't suck, and is actually funny. It's a good thing.
Scott was commenting last night that I have come a long way as an actor. I know that's true, but I don't remember the journey from mediocre to pretty good. And I don't think I'm great. But it's comforting to think that you can always be better, there's always something to be working toward. I heard a sermon once where the pastor was commenting on the constant changing of the Chicago skyline due to the ever-present sight of construction cranes and new condominium buildings, and how he wished it could just stay the way it was for a little while, without all the new construction. And then he realized that without the growth of the city represented by new construction, the city would become stagnant and slowly die. And I think about that every time I am driving on Lake Shore Drive and a new building is going up. It's true with life, if we're not growing, we're dying. And I'm glad that as a person, and as an actor, I'm growing and pushing myself farther and farther to test the limits of my identity. Because this side of heaven, there is always room to grow. But I do hope that you like my character, Sarah, where she is right now, and as she evolves throughout this show. Because she's a lot of fun, and I'm glad that I've "fallen" into her along this journey the past few weeks. Come see the show if you can, and like I've said many times before, if you can't see it, pray for it...we need it!
Here we go!!!
