Sunday

And just to finish out the weekend...

Sunday, church in the morning, of course. And then I did the most unhappy grown-up thing imaginable. I had to go to the wake for the husband of one of my coworkers, who passed away last week. I felt an uncomfortable sense of being an adult now, because I have to go to things like this, and it's no longer acceptable for me to opt out while my parents go. This was someone my parents didn't know, so it was me, on my own. This is the second one in a year or so, the first with an open casket. It's always a little disconcerting with an open casket. I was struck with the unfortunate realization that I will only be going to more of these as I get older, not less. I was struck also by the peace that comes only from knowing that I am saved by Christ, and as Anne Lamott put it so eloquently, that death is just "a major change of address."

Anyway, after that, I headed back into the city to watch the Bears game with Scott (a thriller won in overtime! woo-hoo!), but on the way, I stopped and picked up my new custom purse from 1154 Lill Street that I designed myself. Janelle, my best friend, and my sister and brother-in-law got me a gift certificate for Lill Street for my birthday, and it was a fabulous idea. I got to go in and pick out a handbag style, then pick the fabrics that I wanted for the body, strap and inside. It was so fun, and it's unique to me. I love that. I highly recommend it for a girly, fun, creative experience. My purse is so pretty that I can't bring myself to use it yet. It's sitting on a chair, so I can admire it from afar. Eventually, I'm going to have to suck it up and use it, but I like looking at it as artwork for the time being.

After the Bears game, Scott went to a listening party for the CD recording of last spring's show "Mr. Spacky", and I stayed home and watched the exciting Patriots/ Eagles game and cleaned my apartment. I have a large amount of resentment for the Patriots, and I do not like them AT ALL, so I was disheartened that they squeaked out a win. I was encouraged by the fact that the Eagles came really close with a backup QB, so there is hope yet for those "undefeated" predictions to be unraveled. We can always hope.

That's the summary of my weekend, and my bandying about town. Now we're back to the work week, and there is no time for all that foolishness. But look for more weekend updates as the busy holiday season falls upon us...there is lots of work to be done in the holiday celebration business...
