Date Night

Last night, Scott and I had a date night. It's funny when you're in a dating relationship, because people assume that you go on dates. This is not always the case, however. You tend to become busy with making plans with other people, busy working or going to school or taking care of mundane things, and forget about the actual "date" portion of dating. And that is such a shame, because dates are fun.

We went to Rise, of course, and got amazing sushi. Scott and I love, love, love their sushi, you can read about that in a previous blog. So we mowed down the sushi, and headed to Andersonville for a martini. We went to Marty's, a martini bar on Balmoral, right off of Clark. It's a little place, just opened last December, but it was such a great experience. It was a slow night, I guess they're usually packed. Chalk it up to outdoor seating at the local restaurants and a beautiful summer night, I guess. Anyway, the bartender there was so nice. He talked to us while he was cleaning the bar and making the drinks, and was just very sociable. He asked us our names and asked us about our lives, and told us about his. I felt like I was in Cheers, but instead of holding a beer, I was holding a Dark Velvet Chocolate Martini (chocolate and raspberry...yummy!). It was the friendliest bar experience I've ever had, and it was easy to see why they have so many regulars. It felt like a combination of a Humphrey Bogart movie and a therapy session. :) We will definitely go back there.

We finished the evening by eating some amazing peanut butter and chocolate fudge from the South Bend Chocolate Company, garnered from our trip to Amish country on Monday, and aimlessly watching sports highlights. It was a wonderful date night, and I was happy to spend some quality time with my fabulous boyfriend. The first day of summer, I was able to do the things that I mentioned in my blog yesterday...relax, breathe deeply, and enjoy the company of a wonderful person.
Here's to idyllic summer evenings...may there be many more...
