It's good to be green
Surprised you, didn't I? No pink screen. I just figured it needed a change. Also, my friend Zach says that he refused to read my blog because he couldn't have a pink screen on his computer while working, and I can't lose readers due to color infractions. So green it is. I feel like I needed a little green back in my life, anyway. I am a green-eyed redhead, after all. I am destined for an affinity to green. The pink was a little shocking early in the morning, even I will admit that. :) Plus, my pictures look so much better on a green screen than a pink one!
This is my 100th blog post. That is craziness to me. I think that I've craved this outlet for years. A place to be goofy, insightful (at times, I don't give myself too much credit on that), and just ramble uninterrupted with my opinions about anything I want to talk about.
Today's topic: Stranger than Fiction. Scott and I went to see this movie with Tyler and Jen this past weekend, and we all really enjoyed it. It was an extremely intelligent movie. Very well written, very stark at times, funny at others, and just quirky like real life. It was Will Ferrell playing straight, and I was relieved. Will Ferrell can be a funny man, and I did get a kick out of Talledega Nights. I hated Anchorman, however, so my Will Ferrell tolerance is somewhat limited. But Stranger than Fiction showcased Will Ferrell, the actor. And I was impressed. Maggie Gyllenhal is adorable. Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman are interesting. The plot was interesting, the concept unique, and I loved it.
Yesterday morning on the radio, they were bashing this movie. Whining about how Will Ferrell should stick to comedy. Whining about how slow the movie was (apparently not enough body function jokes for the dj's), how they fell asleep. And all I could think was, "You missed it. You totally missed the point." And I know that there are a lot of times when I watch movies when I miss the point and don't like them (ie. Prairie Home Companion), but this was the one time when I realized that I got it and other people didn't. This is probably what Scott and Tyler feel like all the time when they're trying to convince people about certain movies. But I found myself disappointed in these people that I listen to on the radio every morning, and wishing that the world had a little more appreciation for quirky, realistic movies such as Stranger than Fiction or Little Miss Sunshine, because there is a part of me that thinks that if we can recognize and appreciate those things on screen, then we are tuned in to picking up the ironies and little joys of the life we are actually leading. Movies will come and go, but relationships, these real lives we're bopping around in...that's what it will all boil down to in the end. Stop looking for the laugh track. Find your quirky indie movie self and live it joyfully.

I dunno, "The Regular Guy" on XRT loved it. I want to see it just because Tony Hale is in it, and I went to school with him.
I'm diggin' the green!
i like the green too. I was sceptical at first when you told me last nite. But now i've seen the lite, green that is.
