Movie Central
I am in the middle of a movie extravaganza. This is because Blockbuster, in its infinite wisdom, offered me the use of Blockbuster online free for a month. So I signed up and got my very own queue (I've had queue envy for a while now with all my friends on Netflix), and so I've gotten movies in my mailbox now starting last weekend (3 at a time), and free coupons for free movies at my Blockbuster store (one per week, including new releases). Add these freebies to the free non-new release I get every month from Blockbuster as a faithful Rewards member, and I'm rolling in movies to watch...
So far, I've only watched two, but that's impressive considering I was gone all weekend, and could only watch them Sun. night and last night. I watched "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" on Sun. night with Scott, and laughed until I cried and got chest pains. I literally had to stop the movie so that I could catch my breath. I LOVED it!! It's full of the F-bomb and some gratuitous nudity (unnecessary on all counts), but otherwise, funny as all get out. I highly recommend it, if you can get past those two things.
Last night, I finished watching "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which I had started Sunday night after the other one. I had wanted to see it since it came out last year, but it wasn't one that I particularly wanted to spend money on, so this was as good of an opportunity as any. It was predictably visually stunning, and Johnny Depp is amazing. And totally creepy. :) He is so unlike Johnny Depp that it's impressive. I liked the movie, didn't love it, but it was pretty good for a kid's movie. Plus, I was way less freaked out this time than with the first "Charlie" when I was but a wee little girl. That movie gave me the heeby-jeebies. So it was good to get that out of my system. Also, it was good to be reminded how the other kids met their demise inside the factory...always good lessons to avoid being greedy, selfish, gluttonous, or ridiculously insane. :)
Tonight, I plan on watching "Devil's Playground", a documentary about Amish teenagers exposed to worldly temptations, and if I have time, "Just Like Heaven," the cheesy chick flick with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. It's kind of funny. This queue business is making me more like Scott, movie marathon after movie marathon. The difference is, I'll probably get tired of it, and want to read a good book or go out to dinner, and I don't think he ever gets tired of it. So many movies, so little time...but for the month of August, when my cable is officially on the fritz, it's keeping me entertained. :) Bring on the popcorn...
