Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving, and am excited to head to Michigan tonight to spend time with my family eating, talking, relaxing and watching football. Unfortunately, I have to head back here for work on Friday, but I'll take what I can get.

I am battling a cold that has decided to wage war against my immune system. It's a valiant fight on both sides. The cold is winning, I think, but my immune system is holding its own. I haven't succumbed completely to full-on cold symptoms, I just have a wicked sore, scratchy throat, headache and some congestion. Not nearly as bad as it could be, but not fun, either.

Scott and I baked last night, in preparation for this evening's trek for the holidays. I brought cookies in to work with me today, and there was great joy and much surprise. I'm not the kitchen type. But the cookies, I will admit, are fabulous.

This past Saturday night, I went dancing. I haven't gone dancing in months, and it was fun to get out, though I initially put up quite the struggle about going. Ultimately, my curiosity won out, and I trekked with Scott downtown, where we met Jake and Erin and a friend of Erin's from out of town. We had a good time dancing, but I was again struck with the general debauchery that occurs in a place like that. In my head, whenever I walk into a place like that, I see the spiritual warfare that must be taking place above our heads, a la "This Present Darkness". I gather that there are one or two angels meekly watching their charges (I won't claim that those angels are there watching over me, but I'd like to think they are), among a room full of the demons of lust, greed, drunkenness and depravity. The emptiness and loneliness in the room is almost physically tangible. Anyway, we left at like 2:00 a.m., and the best part of the evening came on the cab ride home. Our cab driver was listening to WMBI, Moody Bible Institute's radio station, so we got into a conversation with him about Christianity, his job, and his life. He is from Nigeria, and unfailingly polite. I have never met a cabbie that nice in my life. When I got out of the cab, he told me that I had made his night. When I was walking in to my apartment, all I could think was, "No, sir. You made mine." I don't have to question God's presence in my life. The Holy Spirit speaks loud and clear in random meetings at 2:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning.

I also got offered the grad school internship that I wanted the very most!! YAY!

That is the news from my corner of the world. Happy Thanksgiving, safe travel, and good football to all!!

Last year at Thanksgiving, I was about as sick as I ever was. I slept for 16 hours the previous night into the day, and had absolutely NO appetite. It kinda stunk.
